Stupe is a pilot in the Dumb Ways to Die series who originally got decapitated after attempting to teach himself how to fly.

About[]

Stupe was given his name by his father Dummo, the late, great shark tamer. Like his father, Stupe's philosophy on life is that nothing is impossible. He believes that you can do anything if you put your mind to it - like teaching yourself how to fly. Many are supportive of Stupe's attribute to life. The law of gravity isn't.

Stupe is a bean with a lime capsule body that wears a brown pilot's cap. After his death, he possesses the ability to pull his head off his body.

Videos[]

Dumb Ways to Die[]

Stupe was seen attempting to teach himself how to properly fly an airplane which overturns and crashes, causing him to be decapitated.

In the chorus, he doesn't dance, clap or sway; instead he continuously detaches his head from his body, then puts it back on. When the "ie-ie-ie" clip comes, he tosses his head into the air, and after that, he sways his arms like most of the characters.

Dumb Ways to Die 2: The Games[]

In the promotion video for Adrenaland, Stupe accidentally kills Madcap by flying his plane into him.

Dumb Ways to Die 3: World Tour[]

STUPE

In a promotion video for the AR feature, Calamity gets his plane moving, but because of her scarf, she is impaled by the motor. Stupe then drops out of the plane, wipes his eyes, and is decapitated again.

Games[]

Dumb Ways to Die (application)[]

In all versions, he is the 20th and last bean, with 3800 points to be unlocked in older versions of the game, but in the newer version, the player needs 2691200 points to unlock him and he is the 114th thing to be unlocked.

Flappy Stupe

Unlock at 3200 accumulated score

Prior to the 1.7 update, the player had to make any noise in the microphone (even though the instruction was to blow) in order to keep Stupe and his plane airborne. Winning will make Stupe keep flying safely. Otherwise, he crash lands and is decapitated again. The old version could be "turned off" in the settings.

In the new version, the player has to tap the screen in order to keep Stupe's plane bobbing up and down inbetween the clouds and the ground. The same thing still happens in both winning and losing, but now, if Stupe is caught in a cloud, he will still crash, but now with a little cloud over his face.

Cactus Crash

Unlock at 51200 accumulated score

Stupe also has another minigame where he is flying his plane throughout a desert, with lots of cacti. The player must swipe the screen so that Stupe can avoid the cacti. Hitting a cactus will make Stupe's plane crash into the cactus, throwing Stupe out, resulting in failure. Dodging all the cacti will make Stupe's plane fly away safely, with a present falling out of the plane.

Cannon Crash

Unlock at 1,445,000 accumulated score

Stupe has a pirate minigame where he's being launched out of a cannon to another pirate ship. The player must tap their finger when the dotted line is correct. Failure consists of Stupe landing in the water and being grabbed by an octopus. Winning will make him land on the ship and draws his sword.

Far-off Lands

Can't be unlocked at this point of time

Stupe has another minigame where he's trying to land his plane. The player must tilt their screen to help Stupe land correctly. If the player doesn't, the plane will hit the ground and Stupe will be sent flying after it lands, but he then hits the ground, causing his head to decapitate, resulting in failure. Winning will make him land the plane, picks up some takeout, and flies again.

Dumb Ways to Die 2: The Games[]

Stupe, like in the first game, is the last bean to be unlocked in The Dumbest of the Dumb. If the player clicks on Stupe and his plane, he will crash land again.

Running Late for Class

Stupe's only minigame in the second application is a Back-to-School themed minigame, like Boffo's Tsunami Surfing. Stupe is running late to his (presumably aviation) class, and the player must help him get there by holding and releasing the screen, which helps him move vertically.

If the player is successful, he will arrive at the door, but his teacher will look at him angrily, and (probably) give Stupe a detention off-screen. If he bumps into another student, he will fall over, and lots of kids will bloodily run him over before he has the time to get up.

Dumb Ways to Die: Wire Walk[]

Stupe appears in the said game along with his plane, as an obstacle that Loopy has to dodge in order to avoid a game over.

Dumb Ways to Die 3: World Tour[]

In Dumb Ways to Die 3, His special ability in-game is Aviator, which makes him immune to the first hit, but only in Flying Fiasco. He is also a Rare bean and he can be obtained if you repair a medium-sized house in the 2nd row right of Dumb Peak.

Zany's Hospital[]

Stupe appears in one of the CCTV cameras. In the camera, he is flying on a plane. But he does not get decapitated.

Trivia[]

Comparisons and Design[]

  • He and Numskull are similar in a few ways.
    • Both of them are green.
    • Both of them are capsule-shaped.
    • Both of them wear headgear, along with a few others.
      • Unlike the other beans that do so, he is never seen without his Pilot's Cap, other than the costumes that show him wearing other types of headgear in Dumb Ways to Die 3: World Tour. It should be noted, that his hat flies off his body in Running Late for Class.
    • They correspond to the third line in their respective groups.
    • They both have the letter "S" and "U" in their names, and named after stupidity.
    • They both lost their heads when they died, and also suffer from bloody deaths.
    • They are absent in MIFF, along with Clod.
    • Most of these also apply to Botch.
  • He doesn't follow any of the other dancers. Neither does Dunce who also does his own dance, and Clod (who just appears to wave in the third chorus), Bungle, and Calamity, who don't dance at all.
  • He is one of the four characters in the original video that lose their head. The others are Hapless (his head was eaten by a bear), Numskull (her head explodes in space), and Stumble (he was split into three by the train). However, he and Stumble are the only ones to still have their head with them.
    • Interestingly, both Stupe and Stumble are in the third line in their respective groups.
    • Their names also start with “Stu” and end with “e”.
  • In an early storyboard, he originally wore goggles.
  • Stupa shares a similar name with him, even though nothing else connects them.
  • In Dumb Ways to Dash, his model has shading on both his head and body to represent his decapitation.
  • In the BEANS NFTs video, a yellow bean that vaguely resembles Stupe jumps into the blender before the beans get shredded, however it’s unknown if this bean is a lookalike of Stupe or not.
  • Him and Dunce are the only Solo dancers in the video:
    • Coincidentally, they both have deaths that are bloody.
    • They are both capsule-shaped.
    • Both names end in "E" and are named after stupidity.
    • Both pause at the ending chorus.
  • Stupe is the first character to:
    • Be green.
    • Be a solo dancer.
    • Be named directly after stupidity, rather than a word that is spelt differently with the same definition.
    • Be seen conducting a vehicle.
    • Be seen wearing an accessorie.

General[]

  • On an older version of the Dumb Ways to Die website, Stupe flies in and gets decapitated automatically.
  • If one looks closely during the music video, Stupe's mouth moves slightly earlier or later than the other beans in some parts of the chorus.
