Hapless is a bean whose head got eaten by a grizzly bear after he poked it with a stick.
About[]
The kindest nuns in the entire world brought up Hapless. Every day and every night his childhood was filled with love and happiness. The downside for Hapless was that he thought everyone was like this. And everything. This includes the grizzly bear who escaped after years of torture at the hand of a circus trainer.
Appearance[]
Hapless after being decapitated. Notice the bone in the center and the Fountain of blood.
Hapless is a yellow oval bean with a mouth that is slightly wider than most other beans; sometimes he is seen holding a stick.
After prodding around with the bear, he is now headless with a fountain of blood squirting out of his spine.

Dumb Ways to Die[]
Hapless is seen poking the grizzly bear with his stick, who promptly devours his upper body. The result is a decapitated Hapless with bite marks, an exposed bone, and the iconic blood spurts shooting out from the bone in a fountain-like way.
Melbourne International Film Festival[]
In the video, he gets a phone call that ruins the movie, and after that, the video cuts out and he is seen with his dead form. At the outro, he does the regular dance in Dumb Ways to Die.
Game[]
Dumb Ways to Die (application)[]
Hapless can be unlocked for the player's Train Station, as the 2nd bean to arrive at the train station in both versions. In older versions of Dumb Ways to Die, the player have to just play through the game for the first time to get him, which is nothing compared to the 12800 points required to unlock him in the newer versions. He is also the 6th thing to be unlocked in newer versions.
- Duck Duck Bear
Unlocked by default
The player must tap the screen when the bear head is on the yellow highlighted strip of the bar below Hapless. If the player taps too early or late, Hapless will be killed by the bear. Otherwise, after doing so successfully for several times, the bear spits out candy.
- Tip Toe Tap
Unlock at 1800 accumulated score
Hapless has another game in the update, in which the player must tap the screen one second at a time to make him tiptoe past a sleeping bear. If the player taps too fast or too slow, or not at all, the bear wakes up and eats his head, resulting in failure. If the timing is perfect, Hapless will sneak past the bear and get some vanilla ice cream while winking at the player.
- Candy Catch
Unlocked by default for a limited time
Hapless has a Halloween game, in which the player has to drag the bag to catch the falling candies. If the player drops one, the bear eats his head, resulting in failure. If all the falling candies are caught, he and the bear share the candy.
- Huge Missed Steak
Can't be unlocked at this point of time
Hapless has an animal game where the player must swipe to fling steaks into each of the bears' mouths. If done successfully, Hapless will walk up to one of the bears, who spits candy into his mouth. If the steak is fed to the incorrect bear or not at all, Hapless will throw a piece of steak on him and a hungry bear eats both it and him.
- Mistake Mountain

Hapless has yet another mini-game, this time, he must climb up a mountain. If the player wins, Hapless places a flag on top of a mountain that features the Dumb Ways to Die 2 beans. If the player fails, the grizzly bear will appear behind Hapless and kills him offscreen.
- Sneak 'n' Snack

Hapless has an Easter-themed minigame which is similar to his second one. In it, the player has to tap to make Clod tip toe to the window. If so, Hapless will wake up and see some melted eggs. Otherwise, he will wake up in shock when Clod is stealing eggs. Clod will get afraid, and will drop the basket and will jump out the window, breaking it bloodily, resulting in failure.
Dumb Ways to Die 2: The Games[]
Hapless might appear in the map after scoring 200 points in the Dumbest Of The Dumb. If you tap him while he's on the map, a bear will eat his head causing him to fall over. However, there are no blood spurts.
Dumb Ways to Die 3: World Tour[]
Hapless is a Common bean in Dumb Ways to Die 3: World Tour. He can be unlocked in gifts. Hapless's ability is Naive, which counts +25% Score Multiplier.
